“Poliovirus is the most extensively studied member of the order Picornavirales, which contains numerous medical, veterinary and agricultural pathogens. The picornavirus genome encodes a single polyprotein that is divided into three regions: P1, P2 and P3. P3 proteins are known to participate more directly in genome replication, for example by containing the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp or 3Dpol), among several p38 MAPK inhibitors clinical trials other proteins and enzymes. We will review recent data that provide new insight into the structure, function and mechanism of P3 proteins and their complexes, which are required for initiation of genome replication. Replication of poliovirus genomes occurs within macromolecular complexes, containing viral RNA, viral proteins and host-cell membranes, collectively referred to as replication complexes. P2 proteins clearly contribute to interactions with the host cell that are required for virus multiplication, including formation of replication Cl-amidine order complexes. We will discuss recent data that suggest a role for P3 proteins in formation of replication

complexes. Among the least understood steps of the poliovirus lifecycle is encapsidation of genomic RNA. We will also describe data that suggest a role for P3 proteins in this step.”
“We investigated the effect of the excitation wavelength on the density evolution of laser-produced tin plasmas, both experimentally and numerically. For producing plasmas, Sn targets were excited with either 10.6 mu m CO(2) laser or 1.06 mu m Nd: yttrium aluminum garnet laser; both are considered to be potential excitation lasers

for extreme ultraviolet lithography laser-produced plasma light sources. The electron density of the plasma during the isothermal expansion regime was estimated using an interferometric technique. The Stark broadening of isolated singly-ionized GDC-0068 emission was employed for deducing the density during the plasma adiabatic expansion regime. Our results indicate that the excitation source wavelength determines the initial density of the plasma, as well the plume expansion dynamics. Numerical simulation using HEIGHTS simulation package agrees well with the experimentally measured density profile. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3562143]“
“The authors describe the clinical features and management of lateral sinus thrombosis associated with mastoiditis and otitis media in children. Of 475 patients with mastoiditis and otitis media, 13 (2.7%) had lateral sinus thrombosis identified by magnetic resonance imaging/magnetic resonance venography (n = 11) and angiography (n 2).
