One hundred twenty subjects from the OAI without knee pain ( age, 45-55 years) and with risk factors for knee osteoarthritis (OA) were studied by using knee radiographs, 3.0-T knee magnetic resonance (MR) images ( including intermediate-weighted fast spin-echo and T2 mapping sequences), and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly. MR images of the right knee were assessed by two musculoskeletal radiologists for the presence and grade of abnormalities. Segmentation of the patella cartilage was performed, and T2 maps were generated. Statistical significance was determined by using analysis of variance, chi(2) analysis, correlation coefficient tests, the Cohen kappa, and a multiple linear regression model.

Sexual transmission is the fastest growing route of HIV transmission in China. We undertook this study to describe the risk factors for HIV infection in female sex workers (FSWs), and to determine the commercial sex venues where FSWs are most at risk of being infected with or infecting others with HIV.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 737 FSWs in Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province in southern China, which took place from March to May 2006.

Results: The overall HIV prevalence was 10.3%, but prevalence varied with sex venue with 25.8% of FSWs working on the streets being HIV-positive and none of the FSWs working in nightclubs. Here we identify two proteins, KRAB zinc finger protein ZNF 350 and enolase-1 as RE-IIBP interacting proteins by yeast two-hybrid screening and confirmed direct interaction in vivo and in vitro. Both proteins have been known for their role in transcriptional repression. Reporter assays using transient transfection demonstrated that both ZNF 350 and enolase-1 proteins synergistically repressed transcription with RE-IIBP, respectively. These results indicate both proteins have roles in RE-IIBP mediated transcriptional repression by involving co-repressor complex.”

A model system built up of arrays of hard magnetic CoPt squares (5 mu m edge length) embedded in a soft magnetic permalloy matrix is investigated.
